About sixty years ago crops on our family farm included wheat, barley, alfalfa, sugar beets and pastures of native grasses. There was also a large herd of Hereford cattle that were kept right here on this land as well as on many acres of range land in various locations throughout the Walla Walla Valley and surrounding area.

Our grandfather preferred the
Hereford breed of cattle. Besides being a beautiful and gentle breed, favorable qualities include stockier body frames that thrive on pasture, smaller calves which means fewer birthing problems and sound mothering abilities.

Today, we are thrilled to have the opportunity to bring these heirloom-style cattle within the Hereford breed back to our family farmland. A partnership and friendship has been made with Len McIrvin, a cattleman who selects for genetic traits that were more common in our grandfathers day.

We are wintering and calving 477 head of Len's cattle, the calves of which are the beginning of our own Certified Organic Hereford herd. Pictured at the right is the first of the spring calves of 2006 born on our Certified Organic land.
