This June 2006 afternoon event began in the shade of three large maple trees on the Huesby farm. After an informal lunch, visiting and registration with Tilth Producers of Washington who organized the tour, guests introduced themselves and were welcomed to the Thundering Hooves Organic Farm Walk.

Dave Meuhleisen , representing Tilth, began by explaining a little about Tilth Producers of Washington . With a membership of over 400 Washington growers:
Tilth Producers fosters and promotes ecologically sound, sustainable agriculture in the interest of environmental preservation, human health and social equity.
Joel Huesby (lower left) kicked off the tour with a brief introduction of how Thundering Hooves began, its philosophical beginnings, and the numerous challenges small farms face in today's big business world.

People from several different arenas were in attendance: other direct marketers, traditional farmers looking for change, representatives from the Washington State Department of Ecology, state and county Extension, WSDA Small Farms and WSDA Organic program.
Several visitors showed interest in developing their own sustainable family farming operations by asking a myriad of questions regarding organic certifications, economic viability, breed selection and securing financing.
The answers to many of these questions became clearer as the walking tour unfolded...
