Joel takes the group through a pasture that was recently certified organic and points out the transitional stages our land has gone through as our soil rebuilds tilth, or ability to hold nutrients and water. For example, here Joel talks about this lush alfalfa stand resulting from sustainable and organic practices. Mother nature wants to cover herself and where there is bare ground, weeds can be a natural step toward a healthy rebuilding of organic matter.

It doesn't happen over night, or even over a year, rather it is an ongoing process. Our farm demonstrates that organic agriculture can be about beautiful and productive landscapes.

Some participants wrote notes, many asked questions, while others added their own insight and experiences.

As if on cue, this herd of cattle walk right up to Joel and the tour group demonstrating one of our favorite ranching techniques. Joel shows how willing these cattle are to follow him with a simple call of "come boss" as they are expecting to be moved into a new grazing area.

It doesn't take long for the cows to become conditioned to the reward of fresh, new pasture!

Standing on the highest point of Thundering Hooves land makes it easy to see the different stages of our rotational grazing methods and paddocks of mown hay in the surrounding fields.
